What’s happened? Nothing has begun releasing a call-recording feature within its Essential Space app for its Phone 3 series of handsets.

  • Nothing, through a post on X, announced Call Recording is being deployed to qualifying phones. The feature is distributed via the Essential Space app and is already on the Phone 3, Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro. The update is an automatic update, no manual OS update needed.
  • Users can initiate recording by long-pressing the physical Essential Key on the side during a call or by tapping a “Start recording” control in the notification tray.
  • These recordings are saved to Essential Space with an AI transcript, a brief summary and topic highlights.
  • In a report by GSMArena, the update is currently available in eight countries; the UK, India, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Why is it important?

  • In-device call recording along with automated transcription and AI summary reimagines conversations being recorded and searched.
  • Converting a hardware button to a one-tap recorder reduces effort for recording interviews, confirmations or receipts of information.

Why should I care?

  • If you have an eligible Nothing phone in target countries, you’ll have speedy access to audio files along with transcripts and summaries.
  • The feature is handy for work or record-keeping. If you handle businesses or records through multiple phone calls a day, you might want to switch up to a Nothing phone.

What’s next?

  • Worldwide release of the feature could be on the horizon as Nothing ensures compliance with local laws.
  • Check Nothing’s official X account from time to time as the company will possibly add device and country support in the future.
