Harman/Becker Automotive Systems has announced a new in-car GPS system for the U.S. market, the Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934. Set to be offered exclusively through Office Depot, the unit offers more-or-less standard mapping and navigation features, plays music over a set of integrated stereo speakers, and—get this—even offers voice warnings when a driver is speeding.
“We recognize that there are a variety of choices when it comes to mobile navigation,” said Ralf Hoellmann, Harman/Becker Automotive Systems’ VP of sales and marketing, in a statement. “Drivers will notice right away the Becker difference—quality German engineering backed by more than 60 years of automotive electronics experience.”
The Becker Traffic Assist 7934 sports a 3.5-inch touch screen display and is pre-loaded with maps of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The unit runs on a 400 MHz processor—which the company claims speeds route calculations—and offers two internal speakers for both music (MP3 and WMA) and voice prompts. Moreover, the unit also offers a speed limit display, and voice warnings can alert drivers when they’re going to fast. And for folks who just have to show off their photos on the road, the unit will happily display JPEG images and do a slideshow. The unit has 64 MB of internal memory, and supports up to 2 GB of additional storage via SD cards.
The Becker Traffic Assist 7934 is he first Harman/Becker GPS offered in the U.S., although the company plans to launch additional products by the end of 2007.
