Gemini lands on another Google TV device, and yours could be next in line

Smarter recommendations and more intuitive voice controls are coming to more TVs.

What’s happened? Gemini is slowly making its way to more Google TV devices, following its debut on TCL’s QM9K series last month.

  • A Reddit user recently spotted the Gemini setup screen (via Android Authority) on their Sony Bravia TV running Android 14 after updating the Google TV Home app.
  • This marks the first confirmed appearance of Gemini on a non-TCL Google TV device, though comments suggest that the assistant isn’t available on all Bravia TVs running Android 14 just yet.
  • Google’s own hardware is yet to receive the Gemini treatment, but that could change in the coming weeks.
  • The company first announced plans to bring Gemini to Google TV devices in January, saying the rollout would begin later in 2025.

Why is this important? Gemini’s arrival on Google TV devices should make your big-screen experience a whole lot smarter and more interactive.

  • Thanks to Gemini, your smart TV will be able to understand natural language prompts, allowing you to do more with your voice than what was possible with Google Assistant.
  • In addition to intuitive voice controls, Gemini will help with content discovery, smart home controls, and more.

Why should I care? Gemini will make interacting with your smart TV easier and more enjoyable, helping you dodge endless scrolling through menus and clunky voice commands.

  • Interacting with your Google TV should feel more natural, and getting tailored content recommendations can be as simple as asking, “Find the highest rated action movie like the Mission Impossible series.”
  • Gemini will also turn your TV into a smart home hub, allowing you to control other devices.

What’s next? Although the rollout appears limited, you can expect Gemini to show up on your Google TV device in the coming days or weeks.

  • Once it’s available, you’ll be greeted with the setup screen shown above, which will allow you to enable personalized results and select a preferred voice.
  • Gemini on Google TV devices will offer ten different voice options, including Bloom, Oxalis, Fern, Magnolia, Violet, Pothos, Calathea, Yarrow, Croton, and Amaryllis.

YouTube is reworking the Home page with Custom Feeds and quicker access to Subscriptions
Saved Custom Feeds are rolling out as YouTube also experiments with a redesigned Home navigation bar.

YouTube is changing how its Home page works, giving viewers more control over what shows up there and making some of the app’s most-used sections easier to reach. Custom Feeds are now replacing the existing topic chips for eligible users, while YouTube is also testing a redesigned top bar on mobile that moves Subscriptions closer to the Home feed.

YouTube first started experimenting with Custom Feeds earlier this year, letting you type out what you wanted to watch and turning that request into its own stream of recommendations. Now, the feature is starting to look less like a side experiment and more like something YouTube actually wants people to use as part of their everyday Home page.

Skullcandy is now part of Bose, but its bold identity isn’t going anywhere
Bold style, meet big sound. Skullcandy just joined the Bose family.
Skullcandy headphone man

If you own a pair of Skullcandy earbuds, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard Bose without realizing it. Now, the two companies are making things official. Bose has bought Skullcandy, the brand that made a name for itself with eye-catching headphones and a whole lot of attitude.

This deal didn’t come out of nowhere. For the past few years, Skullcandy has been packing Bose’s audio tech into its earbuds and headphones under the Sound by Bose label. That team-up worked so well that Bose decided to go all in and bring Skullcandy into the family.
