The 2015 Corvette Stingray aims to knock down the 911 with a new eight-speed automatic

2015 Corvette Stingray buyers will now have the option choose between the manual version or an all-new eight-speed automatic.

No, this is not the same eight-speed found in the Cadillac CST, but rather an entirely new transmission designed in-house by GM for the 2015 Corvette Z06. The new eight weighs eight pounds less than the previous six-speed found in the Corvette Stingray. Get this: Chevrolet says it will outperform the Porsche 911’s dual-clutch transmission by up to eight hundredths of a second. That’s a lot of eights.

Boringly, the new transmission is named the 8L90. Interestingly, however, the 8L90 is made out of aluminum and magnesium. Chevy is using these metals to abide by the gas mileage game. We’ve heard no rumors surrounding what mpg numbers the newly geared Stingray will produce. It should be comparable to the 17 city and 29 highway figures that the 2014 Stingray seven-speed manual produces, though.

Remember, the new Z06 will also be offered with the 8L90, which is impressive considering the Z06’s LT4 will put down 625 horsepower. If the new transmission can take a beating from that supercharged beast then it should handle the Stingray’s ‘mild’ 455 hp without a problem.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. The R2 is targeted at being a more affordable take on the electric SUV and will sit alongside the flagship-tier R1S.

Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

Don’t let the gimmicks fool you. The Ioniq 5 N is a serious track car
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
