T-Mobile has officially launched its Sidekick LX, the first 3G-enabled version of its popular QWERTY-enabled messaging and social networking phone. The Sidekick LX supports 3G mobile networking speeds, a bevy of social networking and mobile applications, and modern conveniences like a camera and high resolution display…and T-Mobile hopes it’s a hit amongst a generation that lives by text messaging and social networking.
“Our Sidekick customers are going to be blown away by the new features this device is offering, which is why it’s so exciting to give them the exclusive opportunity to get it before anyone else,” said T-Mobile chief marketing officer Denny Marie Post, in a statement. “Today’s Sidekick customers are avid communicators, with three out of four accessing social networking sites on their device at least once per week. The real-time notifications, tied with 3G speeds and GPS, will provide customers with the best experience of any Sidekick before, and we expect it will exceed their expectations.”
The Sidekick LX features built-in social networking clients for MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter, along with an integrated GPS with Microsoft Live Search capability, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and a 3.2-inch 854 by 480-pixel LCD display. The unit also offers Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP stereo support, integrated Web browsing, instant messaging support (AIM, Yahoo, and Windows Live Messenger), and the ability to record videos, upload them to social networking sites, and play them directly from MySpace or (via a browser) YouTube.
The Sidekick LX is available now to existing T-Mobile customers for $199.99 with a two-year contract via a Web-only sale; normal humans will be able to set hands on the devices May 13 at select T-Mobile retail stores as well as online. The LX’s are available in black and orchid.
