YouTube is giving Shorts a TV-sized makeover, complete with seasons, episodes, and sequential playback

Your TV just became YouTube's new favorite screen.

I used to think of YouTube Shorts as strictly a phone-in-hand, thumb-scrolling thing, something that is meant to be viewed on a tall screen, not something you’d curl up on the couch for.

YouTube just proved me wrong. It is rolling out Shorts Series that turn those vertical clips into full seasons and episodes. It’s also rolling out voice commenting and Community Posts built for your TV screen.

#MadeOnYouTube is packed with product and experience updates for viewers and creators:

So what exactly is a Shorts Series?

Building on YouTube’s Creator Shows format, Shorts Series let creators organize clips into a chronological collection of episodes, even grouping them as seasons, instead of one endless feed. The season structure makes them easier to follow, I’d say.

It also adds features like custom thumbnails and sequential playback so you can pick up where you left off, heavily inspired by OTT platforms. Short Series rolls out today across web, mobile, and TV.

Creators like Kinigra Deon and GOKKO CLUB are already uploading episodic Shorts, and the timing makes sense. Per YouTube, microdramas pulled over 6.5 billion views in just the first half of the year.

#MadeOnYouTube has big updates for watching YouTube on your biggest screen. Here’s what you can expect on your TV soon:

What else is changing for TV viewers?

I never thought I’d say this, but you can now leave voice comments from YouTube on your TV, using voice input via the remote. No more grabbing your phone to react to something a creator said.

Community Posts are also expanding to TV in the coming months. Posts are also starting to show up in the Shorts feed on web and mobile, reaching viewers in more places without them having to look for it (though I’m not sure whether people are actually looking for them).

YouTube has been the top streaming platform by watch time for three straight years, per Nielsen, and more than half of its top 100 creators are now watched more on TV than anywhere else.

Skullcandy is now part of Bose, but its bold identity isn’t going anywhere
Bold style, meet big sound. Skullcandy just joined the Bose family.
Skullcandy headphone man

If you own a pair of Skullcandy earbuds, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard Bose without realizing it. Now, the two companies are making things official. Bose has bought Skullcandy, the brand that made a name for itself with eye-catching headphones and a whole lot of attitude.

This deal didn’t come out of nowhere. For the past few years, Skullcandy has been packing Bose’s audio tech into its earbuds and headphones under the Sound by Bose label. That team-up worked so well that Bose decided to go all in and bring Skullcandy into the family.

Spotify rolls out its first native car app for cable-free listening, but only Audi drivers get it for now
Spotify app on Audi

I’ve sacrificed too many charging cables to my car’s USB port (even the braided ones). All so my playlist could follow me down the road.

Spotify just launched a fully native car app that runs on the car’s infotainment system, with no phone or cable required. However, it’s only available for Audi owners right now.

Apple Music just got a new logo. And yeah, it’s inspired by sound and liquid.
What if you blast music through a clear liquid? You get ripples that inspire a new design language for Apple Music.
New Apple Music Logo

Apple just revealed a new brand identity for Apple Music. The logo with its iconic pink and white color scheme is gone. The design is almost identical, but we now have a monochrome look for the icon, with a black tone set against a white backdrop. Of course, there are also elements of liquid glass alongside the corners. That's just about it. What's fascinating is the story and how Apple actually landed on this visual.

The company says it worked with musician Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics to come up with the new design. Interestingly, in a brief video, Apple says that it actually used music to create the visuals. The video shows an Apple Music logo-shaped item submerged in a clear liquid, with ripples periodically appearing on the surface. " Essentially, the idea was to create the perfect sound wave. We take a frequency, and we play it through a rig," says the company. Take a look at the video below:
