Sony has given the ULT FIELD 1 a new look for the holiday season, adding a Smoke Blue finish to its compact portable speaker.

The new color joins Black, Off-White, Forest Gray, and Orange. The speaker underneath hasn’t changed, so this is a cosmetic refresh rather than a new generation of the ULT FIELD 1. The Smoke Blue version is now available to preorder exclusively through Amazon.

What’s different about Smoke Blue

Sony calls the new finish nature-inspired, and it gives the ULT FIELD 1 a more subdued option alongside some of the brighter colors already available.

The timing also puts it squarely in holiday-shopping territory. Sony is pitching the new finish as another gifting option, which fits a small portable Bluetooth speaker better than trying to sell the color change as a major product update.

What does the ULT FIELD 1 offer

The hardware remains familiar. Sony’s ULT button boosts the bass, while battery life is rated for up to 12 hours. There’s also a multi-way strap for carrying or hanging the speaker when taking it away from home.

The ULT FIELD 1 has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and a shockproof design. It can also sit vertically or horizontally, which gives it a little more flexibility when space is limited. Sony has since expanded the broader ULT Power Sound lineup with additional speakers.

Where can you buy Smoke Blue

The new finish is available to preorder exclusively through Amazon. Existing ULT FIELD 1 owners aren’t missing any new hardware or features, but anyone already considering the speaker now has another color to pick from.

For gift buyers, check Amazon’s delivery estimate before ordering, especially if the speaker needs to arrive by a particular date. An open preorder alone doesn’t confirm when it will ship.

That keeps this refresh refreshingly simple. Same speaker, same feature set, new coat of paint just in time for the holidays.

YouTube is reworking the Home page with Custom Feeds and quicker access to Subscriptions
Saved Custom Feeds are rolling out as YouTube also experiments with a redesigned Home navigation bar.

YouTube is changing how its Home page works, giving viewers more control over what shows up there and making some of the app’s most-used sections easier to reach. Custom Feeds are now replacing the existing topic chips for eligible users, while YouTube is also testing a redesigned top bar on mobile that moves Subscriptions closer to the Home feed.

YouTube first started experimenting with Custom Feeds earlier this year, letting you type out what you wanted to watch and turning that request into its own stream of recommendations. Now, the feature is starting to look less like a side experiment and more like something YouTube actually wants people to use as part of their everyday Home page.

Skullcandy is now part of Bose, but its bold identity isn’t going anywhere
Bold style, meet big sound. Skullcandy just joined the Bose family.
Skullcandy headphone man

If you own a pair of Skullcandy earbuds, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard Bose without realizing it. Now, the two companies are making things official. Bose has bought Skullcandy, the brand that made a name for itself with eye-catching headphones and a whole lot of attitude.

This deal didn’t come out of nowhere. For the past few years, Skullcandy has been packing Bose’s audio tech into its earbuds and headphones under the Sound by Bose label. That team-up worked so well that Bose decided to go all in and bring Skullcandy into the family.

Spotify rolls out its first native car app for cable-free listening, but only Audi drivers get it for now
Spotify app on Audi

I’ve sacrificed too many charging cables to my car’s USB port (even the braided ones). All so my playlist could follow me down the road.

Spotify just launched a fully native car app that runs on the car’s infotainment system, with no phone or cable required. However, it’s only available for Audi owners right now.
