Move over Hennessey, the 2,000-hp ‘Alpha Omega’ GT-R just broke into the 7-second club

Remember when Nissan said the GT-R was untuneable? Well, in the seven years since the car’s jaw-dropping debut, the aftermarket wizards of the world have gotten pretty far with it.

There are more suped-up Nissans on the road today than there are cops to chase them, and earlier this year, an outfit called AMS Performance unleashed a razor sharp track monster called “Ronin.”

The 1000-horsepower beast may have invoked images a medieval Japanese warrior, but AMS’ new car is in a much higher tier of strength.

The new, 2,000-plus-hp “Alpha Omega” GT-R is a god amongst men, a fire-breathing conqueror that isn’t afraid to prove it. AMS Performance just reset the quarter mile record for GT-Rs with a blistering time of 7.70 seconds.

A video of the feat was released by That Racing Channel this week, which took place at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.

Running on 15” slicks, Alpha Omega devoured the 60-foot marker in just 1.296 seconds, with the eighth-mile line flying by in 5.08 seconds at 150.26 mph. That translates to a 0 to 60 mph time of 1.53 seconds, a 0 to 100 mph time of 2.79 seconds, and a mind-boggling 0 to 186 mph time of 7.56 seconds.

Watching Alpha Omega take off from the line is downright scary, as you’re not sure if the GT-R is shooting forward or if the Earth is being counter-rotated under the 1,300 pound-feet of torque. On top of that, it really does sound like a pissed off Kaiju.

The exact modifications to Alpha Omega have not been detailed, but AMS Performance notes the GT-R could have gone even faster on a different track, stating that the Nissan was ready to handle “additional power.” Unfortunately, the Texas earth underneath it was not.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is one of the best-looking EVs yet
Front of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

Maserati is adopting electrified vehicles with open arms, and while that could potentially signal an identity crisis for the luxury Italian brand, that’s probably a good thing in the long run.

The company recently took the wraps off of the new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, which is essentially a convertible version of its already released GranTurismo Folgore electric car. The new EV is its third go at electrified vehicles so far, and it flew us out to Rimini, Italy, to witness the big reveal in person.
