In an interview with Autoguide, Jaguar Land Rover Group Sales Ops Director Andy Gross stated that there’s more excitement in the pipeline for the F-type. “We’ve taken the F-Type so far but we’ll take it a lot further,” Gross said. “We’ll dial in more performance without a shadow of a doubt.”
Currently, the F-type Coupe version packs a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 under the bonnet that produces 500 hp and can launch the car from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds flat. Gross says during the interview that Jaguar had carefully planned the cadence of the F-Type’s product development to meet demands, such as the now offered all-wheel drive. “There are other things we’ll undoubtedly do,” said Gross. “The F-Type will be range of products not a product.”
We can only speculate that this means lighter and more powerful versions of the F-type to come around the bend. Jaguar has already dabbled a little in the area with the F-Type Project 7, which saw the automaker produce 250 examples of the convertible version equipped with a 575 hp version of the V8, weight-shedding and new aerodynamic bodykits.
Perhaps the next F-Type to roll out of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations will be a track-oriented F-type coupe. No one can say for certain, although Gross thinks that by the year 2020, we’ll see just how much performance Jaguar has to offer.
