Yesterday saw the welcome announcement that the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s release date had actually been moved up so it will launch on the same day as the console versions. Now the system requirements for the PC version of the game have been announced.

Metal Gear Solid community manager Robert Peeler posted the requirements in a thread on the game’s Steam forums yesterday. They’re not quite as hefty as some recent releases (see The Witcher 3), but you’ll need a fairly well spec’d PC if you want to run the game on higher settings.

If you were guessing that the requirements would be similar to 2014’s prologue, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, you were correct. The only difference is the higher RAM requirement in the recommended specs.

  • OS: Windows 7×64, Windows 8×64 (64-bit OS Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 (3.40 GHz) or better; Quad-core or better
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (2GB) or better (DirectX 11 card Required)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 28 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

Recommended

  • OS: Windows 7×64, Windows 8×64 (64-bit OS Required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 (3.60GHz) or better; Quad-core or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (DirectX 11 graphic card required)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Hard Drive: 28 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card (Surround Sound 5.1)

Alongside the release date shift, Konami also revealed some extras coming to the PC version of the game. Those who preorder The Phantom Pain will receive a free copy of Ground Zeroes to hold them over in the meantime. Buyers will also get a collector’s video featuring a documentary and behind-the-scenes footage, plus DLC featuring a Venom Snake emblem and Mother Base Staff.

While the launch date for the PC game proper was moved up, Konami announced that Metal Gear Online will be delayed even further on the PC than on consoles. The competitive multiplayer component is coming October 6 on consoles, but not until January 2016 for PC gamers.

It looks like Konami is going to relist some Metal Gear games onto digital storefronts again after having previously taken them down. The news comes by way of a tweet from the official Metal Gear Twitter account.

"The 'METAL GEAR' series released on July 13, 1987, celebrated its 35th anniversary today," the account tweeted. "We are preparing to resume sales of titles that have been temporarily suspended."

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra have been around for almost two years, and during that time the subscription service has established itself as an ample competitor to Xbox Game Pass. That means there is a wealth of great games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners to check out if they're looking for something to play this weekend. I think PS Plus subscribers should be looking toward some of the more underrated games in the subscription service this weekend too.
