Interim patch released for Batman: Arkham Knight, game still not being sold for PC

Last month we reported that an “interim patch” that promised to fix the many issues present in the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight was on the way, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment promising that the patch would arrive in a few weeks. The patch finally arrived yesterday, albeit with a brief snag.

After the patch hit Steam early Thursday morning, users reported that they were seeing smoother framerates and more available graphics options. Then the patch suddenly disappeared. There was speculation that perhaps it had caused more problems than it fixed, but then the patch reappeared overnight.

The patch should now be available to those who purchased Batman: Arkham Knight during the brief window in which the game was on sale. The full patch notes have been available since last month, but a few of the major fixes and improvements are listed below.

  • Reduced frame rate hitches
  • Optimizations for system memory and VRAM usage
  • Improved performance on all GPUs (requires the latest drivers)
  • More Comprehensive In-Game Settings
  • Fixed low resolution texture bugs
  • Fixed hitches when running on mechanical hard drives (HDD)

Warner Bros. is quick to reiterate that this is far from the final patch the game will see. More improvements are in the works, with some of the highest in priority listed below.

  • Adding support for SLI and Crossfire
  • Adding support for the latest DLC & Season Pass content
  • Adding support for additional updates such as Photo Mode
  • Continued improvements and bug fixing for a Windows 7 specific memory issue that occurs on configurations with 8GB of system RAM and some NVIDIA GPUs during extended game play
  • Continued improvements for Windows 10 specific issues on systems with some AMD GPUs

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and invaluable feedback. We’ll provide ongoing updates here as they are made available,” Warner Bros. said in the post announcing the patch on Steam. “In the meantime, please enjoy the game with the latest patch.”

Batman: Arkham Knight for the PC has not been available for sale since the game was pulled from shelves in June. A message on the game’s Steam page states that the game “will be available on SteamOS, Linux and Mac in Fall 2015,” but doesn’t mention when the Windows version will return.

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra have been around for almost two years, and during that time the subscription service has established itself as an ample competitor to Xbox Game Pass. That means there is a wealth of great games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners to check out if they're looking for something to play this weekend. I think PS Plus subscribers should be looking toward some of the more underrated games in the subscription service this weekend too.

I have three particular picks in mind. The first is an enjoyable Metroidvania that came to PS Plus' game catalog when it launched just a couple of weeks ago and deserves a lot more attention than it's getting. After that, there's an action-platformer that pays homage to series like Ninja Gaiden that you should check out before it leaves the catalog. Finally, there's a PS2-era Star Wars game that fills the niche a recently canceled game would have.
