Fluance adds a new family member to its Reference line with the new XL5F speaker

For years, Fluance’s Reference Series line has offered high quality home theater products at prices that, while not dirt cheap, are certainly more affordable than some other high-end gear. Now, the company is adding another member to the family, and it’s one of the most affordable speakers in the line to date.

Today the company announced the XL5F three-way floor-standing speaker. Fluance describes the XL5F as a “testament to the performance that can be achieved when a passion for sound excellence takes center stage,” and says the speaker utilizes superior components, a trademark of the Reference Series line.

The speakers start with 6.5-inch polymer-treated woofers and 5-inch midrange drivers, topped off with neodymium balanced tweeters for crisp highs. These are packed into an audio-grade MDF cabinet that Fluance says greatly reduces both cabinet resonance and distortion, complete with a rear port for enhanced bass.

Aimed at working with a wide range of A/V receivers, the XL5F range can handle from 40 to 200 watts of power and are 8 Ohm compatible. Frequency range is from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, so even if your home theater setup doesn’t feature a subwoofer, these speakers should make for plenty of bass all on their own.

Considering the space that floor-standing speakers occupy in a living room, Fluance has gone to great lengths to ensure that the XL5F looks as good as it sounds. The speakers’ wood finish has a classic look, but its tall and thin nature makes it clear that you’re not using a truly old set of speakers.

The speakers feature eight floor spikes for isolation and can be used on either hardwood or carpeted floors without the acoustics being affected. Fluance provides a lifetime warranty on parts and labor, as well as lifetime customer support, so if you run into trouble after buying them, the company will have your back.

The Fluance XL5F is available starting today in two finishes — Black Ash and Natural Walnut — and sells for $400 per pair. To purchase the speakers or for more information on them, see the Fluance website.
