AOL Launches Local Search Service

From the press release:

AOL Local Search represents the next step in local search convenience by aggregating the most current and frequently updated information listings and high-quality content from leading Internet brands, including AOL Yellow Pages, AOL CityGuide, the Moviefone and MapQuest services, and a range of new partners, into one complete search service. The new AOL Local Search gives users a simpler way to find local businesses, events, movies and more, with tools to narrow choices and help decide who to call, where to go, what to do, and how to get there.

“AOL’s goal is to help people find answers faster where they live, work and travel nationwide,” said Jim Riesenbach, Senior Vice President, AOL Search and Directional Media. “Local search is an important and growing category of search services given that 20 percent of all online look-ups are for something nearby — local businesses and resources, movies, events, restaurants, products, retail stores and more. Our new Local Search is in line with AOL’s commitment to deliver enhanced products based on the highest-quality content to help users find information that’s important to them.”

Apple’s Vision Pro headset officially launches on February 2
A person tries on an Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset in an Apple Store, with an Apple employee alongside them.

The Vision Pro headset will be available to order in the U.S. starting February 2, Apple has just announced, with preorders opening at 5 a.m. PT on January 19. It means the hotly anticipated new product from the Cupertino firm is less than a month away from release.

In a press release on its website, Apple said that the device would be available at both in-store locations and via its website on February 2. Right now, that’s limited to U.S. stores and American online customers. No mention was made of when the headset will be released to users in the rest of the world, although Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said he doesn’t expect we will have long to wait until that happens.

Intel may be ready to launch a new monster CPU
Intel's 14900K CPU socketed in a motherboard.

Intel may be getting ready to add to its lineup of the best processors, and this time around, we're talking about a real monster of a CPU. A new leaked image of the rumored Core i9-14900KS tells us that its launch may not be that far away, and according to reports, the chip is said to be able to reach 6.2GHz right out of the box. But one question remains: Is this image even real?

The photo was posted by HXL (9550pro) earlier today. HXL is a well-known leaker when it comes to CPUs, but even the poster is not sure if the image is fake or not. Even if it is real, they're uncertain whether Intel will launch this CPU. While the image looks real enough, there are some slight inconsistencies in the lettering on the heat sink between the Core i9-14900KS and the Core i9-13900KS.
