New Garmin GPS Device Integrates XM Data

Though it may have missed the boat of Garmin GPS product announcements last week, the new GPSMAP 376C portable GPS navigator looks to be a sweet product worthy of being last but not least. Its main claim to fame? Integration of XM satellite data features.

That’s right. Besides the usual land and marine navigation this type of crossover portable GPS device is known for, Garmin decided to throw in XM satellite features as well. Starting next month, Garmin said $999.99 will set you up with a gadget which offers optional subscription services for XM Radio and XM WX Satellite Weather via an included “smart antenna”. The weather data is fed directly into the GPSMAP 376C’s display, providing a real time overlay of weather for help in making marine navigation decisions.

Other features in the waterproof GPSMAP 376C include pre-loaded navigation base-maps with the ability to accept more specific data map cards for marine or auto navigation, customizable alarms and the ability to store up to 3,000 user waypoints.

“The addition of XM WX Satellite Weather provides another dimension of situational awareness and safety to our popular line of multi-purpose GPS navigators,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s director of marketing. “Whether they’re navigating open waters or the open road, the GPSMAP 376C offers the most detailed and up-to-date weather information available – to help users make informed navigational decisions.”

Nvidia is taking some notes from the enthusiast PC building crowd in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of data centers. The company announced two new liquid-cooled GPUs during its Computex 2022 keynote, but they won't be making their way into your next gaming PC.

Instead, the H100 (announced at GTC earlier this year) and A100 GPUs will ship as part of HGX server racks toward the end of the year. Liquid cooling isn't new for the world of supercomputers, but mainstream data center servers haven't traditionally been able to access this efficient cooling method (not without trying to jerry-rig a gaming GPU into a server, that is).

New report says Apple is building a secret folding device

Apple is working with LG on a foldable display destined for a brand-new, top-secret device that’s yet to be announced. That’s according to a new report from The Elec, and it follows similar claims from reliable tipsters that Apple has some sort of hybrid device up its sleeve.

The Elec’s report explains that LG Display is set to provide HP with a folding 17-inch glass panel that will enter production later this year. These OLED screens will offer 4K resolution and will find their way into a future 11-inch laptop from HP.

Nvidia’s new GeForce Now plan delivers 1440p 120Hz game streaming to any device

Nvidia announced a new membership tier for its GeForce Now cloud gaming service that promises to deliver 1440p gaming at 120Hz straight from the cloud. Refresh rate is quickly surpassing resolution as the key spec for graphical quality, and Nvidia is the second to market with a 120Hz option -- following hot on the heels of Xbox Game Pass Cloud.

The new plan provides access to servers powered by an Nvidia RTX 3080, which you can fully utilize with features like RTX ray tracing and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). Pre-orders begin Thursday, October 21, for Founders and Priority GeForce Now members in North America and Western Europe, and if Nvidia has enough capacity, the plan will be available to everyone the following week.
