Toshiba’s new wireless adapter gives external hard drives wireless connectivity

External hard drives are a great way to stuff away data you can’t or don’t want to store on your local hard drive, but unless yours was made in the last couple of years, it likely doesn’t have wireless access, restricting it to use with one device at a time. However, by plugging your drive into Toshiba’s Canvio Wireless Adapter, you can use it with up to eight different devices simultaneously, essentially teaching an old dog a new trick.

The Canvio Wireless Adapter plugs into a wall outlet on one end, and sports a single full-size USB port, which you plug your external hard drive into. By giving your external drive wireless connectivity, you can upload files to it, download stuff from it, and stream video/audio from it. It’s built-in Pass Through mode ensures that you can connect both to your drive as well as to the Internet simultaneously.

The Canvio Wireless Adapter is compatible with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, OS X Lion-Mavericks, and is supported by dedicated apps for iOS and Android. At 2.5x 1.9 x 0.4 inches, the Canvio Wireless Adapter makes it easy to take on the go.

The Canvio Wireless Adapter is expected to ship starting April 3, and can currently be pre-ordered for $79.99 from Toshiba’s official website.

Google rejects alarming report that says its Search AI tools are unsafe for kids
The company says it couldn’t reproduce many of the responses cited and argues that the testing doesn’t reliably measure product safety
Google AI Mode on mobile and desktop

Google has rejected a new report that labels its AI-powered Search features an “unacceptable risk” for children and teenagers.

Common Sense Media’s Youth AI Safety Institute gave AI Overviews and AI Mode its lowest overall rating. The two tools performed poorly against seven of the institute’s eight AI safety principles and failed every category involving potentially severe harm. Google says those findings came from searches that don’t resemble how people normally use its products.
