To the delight of school teachers everywhere—we’re sure—Nintendo has announced it will introduce Nintendo DS Lite handheld gaming systems in two new colors—Onyx and Coral Pink—on September 13, 2006.
“Not only are the DS Lite screen and battery life incredible, but the new colors just add another element of fun, allowing people to personalize who they are by the color, or colors they pick,” said George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, in a statement.
The two new colors join the Polar White option in the Nintendo DS Lite lineup. Nintendo is talking up that the new colors complement DS games like New Super Mario Brothers, but the choices are pretty obviously meant to appeal to both sides of the adolescent gender divide, making the DS Lite cute for girls and acceptably cool for boys. Or, acceptably ironic for either gender, depending on the “color, or colors” they pick.
