Rockstar Games lays out the ‘GTA Online’ launch and future plans

GTA Online will allow up to 16 players to run amok in a slightly rewired version of the story mode’s open world Los Santos and Blaine County, Rockstar confirms in a post on its Newswire blog. The October 1 launch of Grand Theft Auto V‘s multiplayer component will allow players to participate in a variety of activities from the main game – everything from tennis to armored car robbery to races – as well as mode-specific “Jobs” that appear to place an emphasis on co-op play. All of that is of course in addition to the usual madness and mayhem that a typical GTA player inflicts on the virtual city. Imagine what 16 at once will do.

The post admits up front that the early days of GTA Online are expected to be… challenging. “One thing we are already aware of, and are trying to alleviate as fast as we can, is the unanticipated additional pressure on the servers due to a significantly higher number of players than we were anticipating at this point,” the announcement notes. “We are working around the clock to buy and add more servers, but this increased scale is only going to make the first few days even more temperamental than such things usually are.” Rockstar cites recent issues with GTA V‘s iFruit companion app and the developer’s Social Club community hub as examples of the increased strain.

We can also now confirm that GTA Online will indeed offer in-game cash for purchase via microtransactions, backing up earlier reports. “The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash. There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game,” the announcement reads. “The economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other. Most players will earn cash much faster Online than in Story Mode.”

Rockstar closes the announcement post with a brief description of how it plans to grow GTA Online with free post-release updates. Among the upcoming additions are: the Content Creator hinted in the initial GTA Online trailer that allows players to build deathmatch arenas and races; a Beach Bum pack that adds “4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons”; a team-based Capture the Flag mode with included support for the Content Creator; and co-op Heists, complete with the story mode’s Planning Boards added to player apartments.

Grand Theft Auto V makes its surprise return to Xbox Game Pass today

Xbox Game Pass is kicking off July with a major surprise, as Grand Theft Auto V has returned to the service. Rockstar's sales juggernaut leads an otherwise light month for Game Pass, which brings Capcom's Exoprimal as a day-one launch.

This isn't the first time that Grand Theft Auto V has been on Game Pass. It was previously on the service circa 2021 but removed from it that August. Rockstar has a history of putting its games on Game Pass for a brief window before pulling it, as it also did with Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar Games’ co-founder just formed an ‘absurd’ new studio
A man drives away in a boat with stolen money in Grand Theft Auto 5 art.

Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar Games and one of the people behind the creation of series like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, has unveiled his new studio, Absurd Ventures.

Dan Houser was a stalwart figure at Rockstar Games since its founding and had a hand in the creative aspects of pretty much every game in the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, along with other titles like Bully and Max Payne 3. Following an "extended break" following the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as some controversy surrounding some reported issues with the game's creative development, Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive announced that Houser had left the company in early 2020. He's had a relatively low-profile since then outside of serving on the board of a blockchain company, but now looks to be fully invested in Absurd Ventures, a company he technically founded in 2021.
Absurd Ventures is finally being revealed more publicly now, and Houser did so with an intentionally absurd announcement trailer and website with the tagline "Storytelling, Philanthropy, Ultraviolence." According to a tweet by Geoff Keighley, the actual main goal of Absurd Ventures is "building narrative worlds, creating characters, and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres, without regard to medium, to be produced for live-action and animation, video games and other interactive content, books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts."
Absurd Ventures
It seems like Houser wants to make a creative think tank that can craft ideas that are then realized in a variety of creative mediums. It doesn't seem quite like any other game developer or movie studio out there, so it will be very interesting to see what the minds at Absurd Ventures are eventually able to come up with.

GTA 5 cheats: codes and phone numbers PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC
Trevor, Franklin, and Michael prepare to hunt someone in the forests outside of Los Santos.

Cheat codes have been a mainstay of the Grand Theft Auto series for years. From spawning a few vehicles to loading your gun with flaming bullets, cheat codes turn GTA 5 into a god game, where you can control the parameters of the sandbox you're playing in, so it's no surprise it's one of the bestselling games of all time. No matter what platform you're playing on, these GTA 5 cheats and secrets will work. But keep in mind: Cheats stop you from earning trophies and achievements while they're live, so keep them for playtime only.
How to use GTA 5 cheats
There are a few ways to enter GTA 5 cheat codes. The first and easiest is to use your cellphone. You can open your cellphone by pressing Up on the D-pad. From there, enter the corresponding number, and the cheat will fire. You can also classically input cheats by following a specific button combination. The combinations are the same across PlayStation and Xbox, but we've split them up to account for their different button-naming conventions, so it should feel more natural reading and entering them.
