Samsung Creates New TV Receiver Chip

By implementing the company’s proprietary algorithm, the S5H1406 offers quick access to signals that reduce transmission interference. The S5H1406 also offers an advanced demodulator and synchronization detector, high performance equalizer and Forward Error Correction (FEC).

Last July, Samsung announced its completion of development of a SoC device S5H2200 that integrates a dual MPEG-2 decoder, CPU and the company’s proprietary image improvement function known as the DNIe, or “Digital Natural Image engine.”

“With the highly-integrated SoC device for digital TV we introduced last year, Samsung now offers a total solution in the digital TV area, from broadcast reception to image playback and image quality enhancement,” said Dojun Rhee, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ SoC R&D Center.

In independent field tests, the S5H1406 succeeded in acquiring and tracking the signals of five domestic terrestrial digital TV broadcasts. Based on the overall evaluation, Samsung’s advanced receiver chip exceeds current levels of reception performance in the marketplace today.

Samsung’s S5H1406 digital TV receiver chip will be made available to customers in Asia in the first quarter of 2005.

Adobe has just announced that it’s bringing licensed music from Universal Music Group (UMG) and Warner Music Group (WMG) to its Adobe Premiere mobile app. Thanks to the partnership, users will be able to search for and find music from these two giants right in the app.

For social media users, this partnership also solves a huge problem. When people post content with music playing in the background, it’s often flagged for copyright violations on social media platforms. Now, if they pick a soundtrack distributed by either Universal Music Group or Warner Music Group, they can simply add it to their videos and post them freely across social media for personal use, without having to worry about copyright strikes and takedown notices.

Google shuts down massive botnet running on 1.3 million Android TV boxes

Google says the Chinese manufacturer Videostrong Technology deliberately infected its devices and sold access to cybercriminals.

Malware infecting Android devices isn't new, but Google's recent report is grim and concerning. The search giant has taken down a massive botnet that turned over 1.3 million Android TV set-top boxes into tools for cybercriminals. Unlike the usual attacks, where users end up downloading some shady apps from the internet, the malware here was planted inside the devices by the manufacturer itself.

According to the Google Threat Intelligence Group, the company behind it is China-based Videostrong Technology. Google has now cut ties with the manufacturer and banned it from building or supplying software for certified Android devices.
