The End-Table Subwoofer

The dual-purpose piece is designed to function as an end table as well as a powerful subwoofer. The M•Bass 1000 complements the Centra line of home theater component centers, including the soon-to-be-released Centra StreamLine Tower Speakers.

Until now, some subwoofers have been big, ugly, black boxes. Centra M•Bass 1000 is a high-powered subwoofer that’s also designed to look and function like a stylish and attractive end table. The M•Bass 1000 features a high-gloss wood veneer and is available in hand-rubbed, high-gloss piano black or light cherry finishes. Its stylish curves are also meant to complement most décors.

End-table subwoofer

This dynamic subwoofer features a 10” aluminum cone driver. A 500-watt internal amplifier provides the power necessary to accurately reproduce explosive movie effects and music passages, and it can be driven to high volumes with the lowest possible distortion, according to M•Design. It is built on furniture glides so it can be easily moved to clean and access connections.

The M•Bass 1000 is available for $2,999.95 each.

Snag this JBL soundbar with wireless subwoofer while it’s $200 off
The JBL Bar 500 and Subwoofer hooked up to a TV in a living room.

Your home theater setup will be even better with an audio upgrade because today's TVs don't have enough space in their slim bodies for powerful speakers. If you're thinking about getting one, you should set your sights on the JBL Bar 500 5.1-channel soundbar, which is available from Best Buy with a $200 discount that brings its price down to $400 from $600 as part of today's best soundbar deals. However, you're going to have to complete the transaction quickly, because we're not sure if the savings will be gone by tomorrow.

Why you should buy the JBL Bar 500 5.1-channel soundbar
JBL is one of the most trusted names in the audio industry, so you shouldn't hold yourself back from buying the JBL Bar 500 5.1-channel soundbar. Our guide on how to buy a soundbar explains that it features five channels, namely the standard left and right channel, a center channel to improve the quality of spoken dialog alongside JBL's PureVoice technology, and two more channels that enable surround sound -- in this case, you'll be getting Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound that will make you feel like you're in the middle of a concert or a sporting event. Meanwhile, the "1" refers to the presence of a subwoofer, which is a 10-inch wireless subwoofer that provides booming bass to further elevate the audio of movies and music.

Spatial audio via headphones: how science crams 9 speakers and a subwoofer inside your head
A diagram of headphone-based spatial audio.

Spatial audio is having a moment. While the goal of offering a more immersive, 3D-like listening experience may have been born in movie theaters, much of the conversation around spatial audio has switched to music -- specifically, the relatively new availability of Dolby Atmos Music tracks via music streaming services.

Spatial audio’s appeal is no mystery. When you combine one of the first novel ways of listening to music since stereo — coupled with Apple’s prodigious marketing might — you get a lot of people wanting to try it.

This soundbar and wireless subwoofer is under $110 today
The Insignia 2.1-channel soundbar with wireless subwoofer in a living room.

While there are soundbar deals for complete surround sound systems, there are also budget-friendly offers that you can shop right now. Here's a great example -- the Insignia 2.1-channel soundbar for a very affordable price of $106 from Best Buy, following a $24 discount on its original price of $130. There's no telling how much time is remaining on this offer though, so if you want to get the soundbar for cheaper than usual, you're going to have to push through with the purchase immediately.

Why you should buy the Insignia 2.1-channel soundbar
Our guide on how to buy a soundbar explains the numbers in the name of the Insignia 2.1-channel soundbar. The "2" means it offers two channels, which are the standard left and right channels, and the "1" means that there's a subwoofer, which is a wireless one in this case. Even the best TVs these days are lacking in the audio department because there's not enough space in their slim designs to include powerful speakers, so while the Insignia 2.1-channel soundbar won't provide you with immersive surround sound, it's more than enough if all you need is louder volume and extra bass while you're watching your favorite streaming shows or playing video games.
