Ford Getting Sirius for 2006

Ford Motor Company and Sirius Satellite Radio announced today that Ford and Lincoln Mercury will begin offering factory-installed Sirius satellite radio systems as an option in selected 2006 vehicles this month. The system will be offered for $195 MSRP, which includes a 6 month subscription to the Sirius service (normally $12.95 per month). The radios will arrive at the dealerships pre-activated so dealers can demonstrate the service and buyers can immediately start using the unit.

Sirius satellite radio will initially be available as an option on Ford F150 trucks this August, followed by Lincoln Mark LTs in September and both Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers in December. Ford says it anticipates adding Sirius satellite radio as an option in more vehicle lines in the near future.

Ford is a relative latecomer to offering satellite radio options in new vehicles. Sirius radios are currently offered in vehicles from Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Dodge, Infiniti, Jeep, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Scion, Toyota, Porsche, Volkswagen, Volvo, and others. Sirius’s main competitor, XM Satellite Radio, is available as a dealer-installed option in selected models from Toyota, Lexus, and Scion.
