Memories Will Be Made Of This

Memories Will Be Made Of ThisAlzheimer’s is a terrible disease. But a new screensaver and social network for Alzheimer sufferers and carers has won first prize in the annual Microsoft-sponsored DesignIT contest.   Called “Memories are made of this,” the idea came from Said Dajani, who manages the web site forthe Alzheimer’s Society in the U.K. As part of the prize, Microsoft technical specialists will now turn his concept into reality.   Dajani cameup with a two-part idea. The first is for a screen saver which stands as a “virtual scrapbook,” so that patients and carers can upload pictures, text and video. The rationale is thatscrapbooks have proved very useful to Alzheimer sufferers in helping them remember important facts and events in their lives. The second part calls for the creation of a social networking site forpatients.   Mr. Dajani was very gratified by the win.   “It was a public vote – so that was very gratifying,” he said. “More and more people are coming across dementia, affecting them and their family. It is estimated that one million people will have a form of dementia by 2025.”   Alzheimer’s is a disease that that changes the structure andchemistry of the brain, resulting in the death of brain cells. It’s the most common cause of dementia.   Contest entrants also worked with artists, and the results went on show May 29 inLondon. Four runners-up each won $2000 of Microsoft consultancy and $2000 of Microsoft software for a charity of their choice. Among entrants who made the runners-up cut were “The future ofcharity web services” and “CO to zero.”

EcoFlow’s new power stations can keep devices running even when the battery hits 0%
EcoFlow's new DELTA Gen4 and RIVER Gen4 series reserve a small amount of battery power for emergencies, even when the indicator reads 0%.
EcoFlow DELTA Gen4 power station

EcoFlow has launched four new portable power stations under its DELTA Gen4 and RIVER Gen4 series. And there is a rather interesting trick they can pull off when the battery runs out. All four models come with Emergency Power Mode, which keeps a small amount of electricity in reserve even when the battery indicator shows 0%. That's enough to charge a phone or keep an emergency light running on the DELTA models during a power outage.

The lineup covers both ends of portable power needs. There are two high-capacity models for home backup, and two smaller ones for camping, road trips, and other outdoor activities.

Your windowsill can now double as a security post.
Anker eufy Window Camera E10

Every time I look at an outdoor security camera, the same tedious process flashes before my eyes. Drilling into a wall, running a cable outside, and praying it survives the weather. Well, it looks like Anker’s eufy found a loophole.

Anker’s new Window Camera E10 is now available in the US for $79.99 (via Amazon). And now, for the most important bit: it’s an indoor camera that sticks to your window glass so you can watch the porch, yard, or driveway from inside (via eufy).
