Any world-traveller will tell you: going places is great, but getting your phone to work anywhere in the world is a whole ‘nother story. Sony Ericsson wants to ease that pain with its new Walkman W760 mobile phone, which packs both tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE for high-speed mobile data connectivity anywhere in the world. along with an integrated GPS receiver to help you find your way. And, in addition to music playback features (it is a Walkman) the slider-design W760 touts motion-sensitive gaming, and comes pre-loaded with Need for Speed ProStreet.
“People today are always on the move so it’s important that they can stay in touch and have their entertainment at their fingertips,” said Sony Ericsson’s head of music marketing Ben Padley, in a release. “The W760 fits perfectly into this lifestyle. It is bold, action-packed, and takes the Walkman phone beyond just music.”
The W760 sports a 2.2-inch display and the phone’s GPS includes Wayfinder Navigator, enabling users to search over 20 million points of interest, and integrates with Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions to destinations all over the planet. A key accessory for the W760 is Sony Ericsson’s Active Speaker MAS-100, which acts not only as a protective case for the phone, but also offers a built-in speaker and FM radio antenna.
The W760’s music capabilities include SensMe, a feature that quickly enables users to pick music and tracks that support their moods; the phone also offers TrackID functionality to let users identify music over the integrated FM receiver or in the air. The phone also includes motion sensing technology that not only factors into supported mobile games, but also enables the phone to (say) automatically rotate photos depending on the phone’s orientation.
The W760 will ship with a 1 GB memory stick; the phone also offers a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth A2DP stereo support, PictBridge printing, USB support, the Access NetFront Web browser, and can be used as a modem with a notebook computer. The W760 should hit selected markets in the second quarter of 2008 (with the MAS-100 speaker/case landing at the same time), although Sony Ericsson hasn’t yet revealed pricing.
