Best Buy

Most smartwatch upgrades are about nicer screens and slightly faster chips. The Ultra is different. It’s the Apple Watch people buy when they want the best version of the idea: tougher build, bigger presence on the wrist, and a battery that’s better suited to long days. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 (GPS + Cellular) is down to $599.00, saving you $200 off the $799.00 compared value. If you’ve been eyeing the Ultra but didn’t want to pay full price, this is the kind of markdown that makes it feel like a smart buy instead of a splurge.

What you’re getting

This is the Apple Watch Ultra 2 with GPS + Cellular, built around a 49mm titanium case. Even if you’re not scaling mountains every weekend, the Ultra design has real everyday perks: it’s made to handle bumps and wear, it’s easy to read at a glance, and it’s geared toward people who want their watch to keep up with busy schedules and active routines.

The cellular capability is also a practical feature. It gives you the option to stay connected without your phone in your hand the entire time, which is helpful for workouts, errands, and travel.

Why it’s worth it

This deal makes sense for two kinds of buyers. First: people who are active and want a watch that feels purpose-built rather than delicate. Second: people who live in notifications, workouts, calendars, and timers all day and want the premium version that’s less likely to feel like it needs replacing soon.

The $200 saving matters because Apple gear doesn’t always get meaningful discounts. Dropping to $599 brings the Ultra 2 into the range where it competes with “mid-tier” upgrades, but you’re getting the top-shelf model.

The bottom line

At $599, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (GPS + Cellular) is a strong value if you want Apple’s most rugged, premium smartwatch and you’ll actually use the fitness tracking, navigation, and everyday convenience features regularly. If you only want basic notifications and occasional step tracking, you can spend less. But if you’ve been waiting for a real price drop on the Ultra 2, this is a good time to buy.

Bluetooth’s biggest speed boost in years could finally make lossless wireless audio more accessible
Bluetooth audio may finally stop settling for good enough.

I keep wired headphones in my bag just for the moments when I actually care how a song sounds. That says a lot about how I feel about Bluetooth audio. Wireless trades sound quality for convenience, but Bluetooth might finally fix that.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has formally announced Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT). It is a new optional feature that lets Bluetooth carry far more data than before, which could translate into better wireless audio (via Bluetooth SIG).

Apple Watch learned new hand gestures in just a minute. It’s the most exciting wearable research I’ve seen in years.
The broad idea behind TransfHAR is to have the smartwatch learn repetitive movements and then remember them, and subsequently take linked actions. Sounds like a dream for smart home automation, and a lot more!
Apple Watch Ultra 2 dual gesture example

Apple brought gesture support to its smartwatches not too long ago. The capabilities, however, are pretty limited. Right now, the smartwatch can only recognize a two-finger tap gesture and a wrist flick gesture. But it seems the smartwatch already has the right set of sensors to recognize and learn a much wider variety of hand gestures, and doing so wouldn’t require any monumental effort.

Researchers from Northwestern University and Carnegie Mellon University have developed a system called TransfHAR that uses the motion sensors inside the Apple Watch, the accelerometer and the gyroscope, to learn and identipfy activities based on the movement of your hands and wrist. Imagine your Apple Watch triggers an action by recognizing your hand motion, without any touch input or voice command. Yeah, that's the core premise here.

Samsung has been steadily turning its wearables into health companions, and its latest update is a big one. The company’s upgraded Sleep Apnea feature has arrived on both Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring.

The rollout comes after the US FDA cleared the feature in July, and Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) gave it the green light as well. Samsung also gets bragging rights here, as it is the first company to bring sleep apnea risk detection to a smart ring.
