Ubisoft reveals 'Ghost Recon Wildlands' environments, special editions

Ubisoft is showing off the vast wilderness featured in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands as part of an extended promotional event in the weeks leading up to an expected E3 showcase.

Ghost Recon Wildlands marks an open-world shift for the long-running shooter series, and its varied environments promise a new degree of challenge for veteran players.

This week’s trailer suggests that swiftly changing environmental conditions will play a large role in Ghost Recon Wildlands‘ core campaign.

“From deserts and mountains to salt flats and jungle, each of these ecosystems presents different challenges that ultimately affect the way you might approach a mission,” Ubisoft communications manager Giancarlo Varanini explains. “For example, the thick vegetation of the jungle will conceal your approach to a target, making it possible to sneak up and get the jump on them. Conversely, traversing arid mountains can leave you vulnerable to enemy attack, so an aerial insertion might be the best way to approach the situation.”

Ghost Recon Wildlands simulates varying weather conditions, and some missions will take place during heavy rain or fog, impacting visibility. Players can navigate the game’s harsh terrain using an array of driveable vehicles, including buggies, dirt bikes, Humvees, and patrol boats.

Ubisoft has also pulled back the curtain on the multiple special editions it has in store for Ghost Recon Wildlands, including a $70 Deluxe Edition that includes a digital code redeemable for bonus in-game weapons and character customization items.

Hardcore Ghost Recon fans may opt for the $100 Gold Edition, which includes all Deluxe Edition content in addition to a digital Season Pass that grants access to “two major expansions” premiering in the months after launch. A Ghost Recon Wildlands Collector’s Edition, which includes a figurine and collectible posters, will also be available at retail in Standard ($120), Deluxe ($130), and Gold ($160) variants.

Ghost Recon Wildlands is currently in development for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. A release date is not yet known.
