Details of the newest installment of the Assassin’s Creed series have begun to trickle out through viral marketing courtesy of Ubisoft. It began on May 3 when a cryptic Facebook message was posted by one of the villains from the games, Dr. Vidic, and since then a few more posts have been seen. Today Ubisoft launched a similarly cryptic new website with a handful of details, and a lot of hints.
The sequel will be called Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. It will be a true sequel to the second game, and follow the exploits of the Eizo, the protagonist from the second game. The game will be set in Rome, and Eizo will be in charge of a group of young assassins who will all feature their own skill sets.
According to a press release sent to IGN, Eizo will “Recruit and train promising young Assassins. Deploy them across the city as you see fit, or call upon them to aid you in your quests.”
One of the most interesting changes will be the inclusion of a multiplayer mode. Ubisoft’s official Assassins Creed page features a deal for the downloadable multiplayer character “Harlequin,” which is available through Gamestop as an exclusive for people that pre-order the game (or it will be when Gamestop begins to take pre-orders). The game will be released this year. No date has been announced, but E3 should resolve that.
The official site also includes a list of new weapons, possibly for the multiplayer games. They include a claw, dagger, poison-filled syringe, fan blade, axe, and switchblade.
