Escobar returns: ‘Narcos’ confirmed for Seasons 3 and 4 on Netflix

The drug-fueled drama of Narcos will continue for at least another two seasons.

Netflix announced this week that the critically praised series will return for a third and fourth season on the streaming video service, with executive producers José Padilha (Elite Squad) and Eric Newman (Children of Men) continuing to shepherd the gritty show chronicling the early days of America’s war against the drug trade of the 1980s.

Along with confirming the return of the series, Netflix also released a new teaser trailer for the third season of the show.

Set and filmed in Colombia, Narcos stars Elite Squad actor Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, one of the most infamous cocaine kingpins of the era. Moura is joined in the cast by Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña, respectively, a pair of real-life agents who were tasked with bringing down Escobar in the ’80s.

The first season of Narcos was released on Netflix in August 2015, with the second 10-episode season premiering just a few days ago.

The series has already been nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award and multiple Golden Globe Awards (including a “Best Actor — Television Series Drama” nomination for Moura) for its first season.

The first two seasons of Narcos are available to watch now on Netflix, and can be screened in Ultra HD 4K. There’s no official word yet on when the third season of Narcos will debut on Netflix.

MCU star Jeremy Renner returns in first trailer for Mayor of Kingstown season 3
Jeremy Renner in Mayor of Kingston season 3.

On January 1, 2023, Jeremy Renner was badly wounded when his snowplow crushed him. Renner's injuries, including almost 40 broken bones, were so severe that it was miraculous he survived, much less recovered. But now, 16 months later, Renner's comeback begins in the first trailer for the third season of his Paramount+ original series, Mayor of Kingstown.

It's unclear if the show plans to explain any physical limitations that Renner's character, Mike McLusky, may have after Renner's real-life accident. Yet there are a few scenes in the trailer where Mike appears to be getting into some fights. But the real battles ahead are the ones that not even Mike can win with his fists.

3 Netflix shows we can’t wait to see in May 2024
Three people stand in the countryside in Bodkin.

Netflix killed it in April. From artsy thrillers like Ripley to supernatural fare like Dead Boy Detectives to the stalker drama Baby Reindeer, the streamer produced enough original content to justify its ever-increasing subscription rates ...  for now, at least.

Netflix's May programming slate doesn't appear to be as packed as April, but there are a few shows on our radar that are worth checking out. There's a big-budget adaptation of an acclaimed novel, a low-key comic mystery set on the Emerald Isle coast, and a show about a man and his puppet on a quest to find a missing child.
