Refurbished Amazon Fire HD 6 Tablets are only $45 now

Amazon’s tablets are the most affordable, name-brand tablets in the market. With our exclusive Digital Trends coupon, you can make one of Amazon’s best-selling tablets even more affordable. For a limited time only, use coupon code “DT11” to take $11 off a certified refurbished Amazon Fire HD 6 Tablet for a final price of $45. By comparison, a new Fire HD 6 Tablet typically sells for $100, which means you’re saving over 50 percent with our exclusive coupon.

The Fire HD 6 offers a lot of value for a little price, easily beating many off-brand Android tablets that you see for under $100. It features a 6-inch touchscreen with a 1,280 x 800 pixel display (a respectable 252 pixels per inch). The screen has also been coated in Gorilla Glass, which should make it less vulnerable to everyday scratches.

In terms of horsepower, the Fire HD 6 packs a quad-core 1.5GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Admittedly, it’s not the fastest tablet on the block, but the quad-core CPU should sufficient at quickly launching apps and streaming video.

Amazon also fitted its tablet with two cameras: a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of shooing 720p video and a lower resolution VGA camera located above the screen (very low res, but good enough for basic video chat). The tablet’s battery life is rated at up to 8 hours, which should be more than enough for a day of internet surfing or the occasional Amazon Video splurge.

Content-wise, you’ll want to have a Prime account handy, which will give you access to Amazon’s ever-growing Prime Music library, more than 300,000 apps, and hundreds of additional free or discounted apps via the Amazon Underground store. Most other major apps are available on Amazon’s Appstore, though it is not as good as Apple’s or Google’s Play Store, which is on most other Android devices.

Amazon’s certified refurbished gadgets have been inspected and sell in “like new” condition. They come with no cosmetic imperfections and have been rigorously tested by Amazon. They’re also backed by a 90-day limited warranty.

This offer is valid through October 13 at 11:59 p.m. PT and limited to one tablet per customer and account.

If you prefer a new tablet, you can still get a discount. Amazon currently offers its Fire HD 6 Tablet for $70, which is $30 off its full $100 price.

Screens before age two may come with serious developmental risks, study warns
Using a phone or a tablet to keep your baby occupied is not a good idea.

Screens have become the digital pacifier for many babies. Phones and tablets are used during feeding, bedtime, chores, and moments when parents need a break. A major new study now warns that regular screen use before age two may carry developmental risks.

Researchers from four UK universities say babies and toddlers under two should avoid regular intentional screen time. The review links higher screen exposure in the first two years with sleep problems, language delays, behavioural difficulties, obesity risk, short-sightedness, and later problems with friendships and social interactions.
