You can now swipe left and right on the newly redesigned version of Tinder

Add as a preferred source on Google

Looks may not be the most crucial thing when it comes to finding your partner, but when it comes to the tool you use to find said partner, then yes, aesthetics are all-important. No one understands this better than Tinder, which in many ways, seems to have catalyzed our societal obsession with swiping left and right to find love, and now, the dating app is swiping left on its own design and bringing in a new look.

“Over the past few months, we’ve been hard at work refreshing the user experience,” the team announced in a blog post. “Today, we’re excited to start rolling out a more seamless way to navigate Tinder for our users around the world.”

First and foremost, Tinder is allowing you to explore profiles more easily simply by tapping on the edge of a photo in order to move onto the next picture, or vice versa. If you tap on the bottom of a fellow user’s profile card, you can smoothly transition over to their complete profile view. This new interface promises to be more intuitive and faster than the previous iteration, and promises to help you find “everything you want to know about a potential match –from their bio and shared connections, to their anthem, top artists, or Instagram feed — quicker and easier than ever before.”

Then, of course, there is Tinder’s renewed focus on users’ looks by allowing photos to take up more real estate on the app. Now, when you are checking someone out, you will be able to check out a picture that extends right to the edge of your screen (because you should not need to squint at your potential significant other).

And finally, there is what you cannot see. Tinder notes it introduced new technology to power its app. “With a new look and feel, a new app architecture, and Apple’s new open-source programming language, we set out to reinvent the Tinder card stack,” the team notes in its tech blog. And if you’re interested in learning more about exactly how the engineers at Tinder allow you to swipe right (or left!) you can check out their engineering posts.

YouTube might get its own social network since Shorts obviously wasn’t addictive enough
YouTube's mysterious Tamba project has Instagram written all over it.

To keep up with TikTok's doomscrolling and Instagram Reels, YouTube brought Shorts to keep you swiping. A new discovery suggests the company is experimenting with something called "Tamba," a mysterious project that looks suspiciously like YouTube's answer to Instagram, complete with followers, private messages, and group chats.

The discovery comes from Android Authority, which uncovered references to the project while digging through version 21.44.534 of the YouTube app for Android. The findings suggest Tamba could exist as a standalone app, potentially giving Google an entirely new social platform built around YouTube's existing ecosystem.

Apple opens Siri AI to all developers, allowing more advanced third-party app controls
Developers can now teach Siri AI to handle multiple actions in a single request, bringing more advanced voice controls to iPhone apps.
Siri AI voice change

Apple's latest wave of beta software recently went live for developers, bringing several new features across Safari, iOS, and watchOS. Along with these changes, the company also announced something far more significant for third-party developers: it is finally letting them use Siri AI more deeply, opening up capabilities previously limited to a narrow set of supported actions. The company released a new developer preview that lets apps handle more complex requests, including booking restaurant reservations, checking deliveries, and placing orders. All by simply asking Siri.

Your iPhone’s StandBy mode is getting new clocks, Calendar, and Weather faces with iOS 27.3
A smarter bedside clock is coming in December.
StandBy mode on an iPhone with iOS 17.

StandBy on iPhone has always felt like an underwhelming feature to me. It does turn a charging iPhone into a glanceable display. However, until now, Apple has offered fairly limited customization options. Well, that seems to be changing.

Apple’s first iOS 27.3 developer beta, released Tuesday, brings the new StandBy features. While they debuted on the iPhone Duo, they’re now available for other iPhones that support StandBy.
