Best Buy’s Nintendo Switch holiday deal includes a free game and a gift card

As holiday deals start to pop up throughout December, you’ll find deals on all sorts of items, including video games. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday showcase some of the best deals of the year, there are a few reliable deals that remain, including the Walmart-exclusive Nintendo Switch bundle and the Best Buy-exclusive Nintendo Switch Bundle with Starlink: Battle for Atlas starter pack .

For $300, you can get an updated version of Nintendo’s eighth-generation handheld/home console hybrid (available in Space Gray or Neon Blue/Neon Red Joy-Con color variants) and a the Starlink Battle for Atlas starter pack for $300. However, if you wait until December 9, you can purchase the same bundle and receive a $30 Best Buy Gift card at no extra cost, which you can use to buy a gift card for Nintendo’s digital storefront, Nintendo eShop. Or, use that gift card toward the purchase for a new game for your console.

What’s interesting about this bundle is the inclusion of the Starlink: Battle for Atlas starter pack. Not only are you receiving a copy of the game, but the starter pack also includes several figurines, including the Arwing starship from the Star Fox series. The Nintendo Switch version of Starlink also contains exclusive content not found in the other versions, such as the chance to play as Fox McCloud.

Unlike the original model, the updated Nintendo Switch model has an increased battery life ranging from 4.5 to 9 hours depending on the game being played while using your Switch in handheld mode. In the past, Nintendo has been stringent when it comes to its gaming systems receiving a limited-time price reduction, especially when you take into account that the Nintendo Switch is just under three years old. Its handheld-only variant, Nintendo Switch Lite, was released only a few months ago. Although the deal is not exactly a door-buster when compared to competitors like PlayStation and Xbox, this Best Buy-exclusive deal still allows you to nab a free game plus a $30 gift card, which you can use to purchase another game for your Switch library.

It’s turning into a pretty good time to be a Monster Hunter fan who plays on a phone. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will launch on Android and iOS on October 29, giving the series a new mobile-first game just as Monster Hunter Rise is also preparing to make the jump to smartphones through Netflix.

Outlanders is being developed by Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studio Group under license and supervision from Capcom. Unlike Rise, which appears to be the full console and PC game adapted for mobile, Outlanders is a free-to-play survival hunting game made specifically for phones.

Phantom Blade Zero makes me think Sony might have a point about going all digital

Physical games still matter, but when the disc isn't a complete copy of the game, the argument for keeping it becomes harder to make.

I'm a big supporter of physical games. There's something satisfying about owning a disc, lending it to a friend, or grabbing a bargain without waiting for a digital storefront to approve the price. But Phantom Blade Zero has me questioning one of the biggest arguments in the physical-versus-digital debate. The game's digital version launches on October 29, 2026, while its physical PS5 editions, including Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate versions, won't arrive until 2027.

And there's another wrinkle: the digital version reportedly needs up to 134GB of storage, raising questions about how much of the game can actually fit on a standard Blu-ray disc. A standard PS5 Ultra HD Blu-ray disc maxes out at 100GB, so Phantom Blade Zero may need to ship across multiple discs or require players to download additional data to finish installing it. Either way, the idea of popping in a disc and having the complete game ready to play gets a little murkier.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly been jailbroken, and AI helped crack the code. Developer Sammy Hajhamid, aka pepsipu, used OpenAI's Codex to help exploit the console, even modding Mario Kart World with the likes of Peter Griffin and Hatsune Miku. But before anyone celebrates an unlocked Nintendo playground, there's a catch: the exploit is tethered, not a full-blown custom firmware jailbreak.
