Android 2.2 Headed to HTC EVO 4G Soon

Don’t get too jealous over Motorola’s new Droid X just yet, EVO fans. Following Motorola’s announcement that its upcoming Android superphone would support Android 2.2 later this summer, Sprint has jumped into gear and assured EVO 4G owners that an update for their phones is coming “in the near future.”

Sprint made the announcement through its official Twitter stream on Friday, later following up with the unfortunate news that the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment will be left out in the cold, with no update to 2.2 planned. Other devices that launch with Android 2.1, Sprint claims, will all get the 2.2 update.

Android 2.2, also known as Froyo, will include a variety of substantial updates, including a new tips widget, dedicated shortcuts for the phone and apps launcher, as well as bolstered Exchange support, additional camera features, and improved performance.
