The cast of The Chi.
Showtime

Paramount+ promised a mountain of content when CBS All Access was rebranded into it’s current form. And for the month of May, Paramount+ is delivering on that promise with an impressive lineup of original series and fan-favorite movies.

Showtime’s The Chi returns on May 16 with its seventh season, which will be available on Paramount+ with Showtime. But every subscriber will be able to check in with the new season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, which is either the third season of the revival or the 18th season overall, depending on how you see it.

Some of the most enticing additions to this month’s movie library are exclusive to Paramount+ with Showtime. Paramount+’s lower tiers get everything else. Keep that in mind when looking over our roundup of everything new on Paramount+ in May 2025. The shows and movies below marked with an asterisk (*) are only available on Paramount+ with Showtime. Titles marked with a double asterisk (**) can be live-streamed from CBS by Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers. Our picks for the month are in bold.

Grok’s AI-generated Odyssey series is seven minutes of nothing happening beautifully
The landscapes look convincing. The fake Hugh Jackman and Instagram-face amalgamation playing Penelope are harder to forgive.
Uniform ships Odyssey by Grok

Some of the best shots in Grok Imagine’s AI-made Odyssey don’t contain actors. Ancient landscapes stretch into the distance. Close-ups of grimy hands suggest people who have touched something rougher than a keyboard. For a few seconds, the illusion holds.

YouTube’s next big upgrade could make videos use 30% less data
AV2 could reduce the data needed to stream videos while enabling better HDR and multi-view experiences.
youtube-feature-upgrade-TV-4k

YouTube videos could soon look better without eating quite so much data, right? Thankfully, the platform plans to introduce a new video format called AV2 on its web player in early 2027, promising more efficient streaming and potentially fewer playback hiccups on slower internet connections. The big headline is a roughly 30% improvement in compression efficiency over AV1, YouTube's existing video format. That doesn't guarantee every video will use 30% less data, but it could make streaming a little easier on both internet connections and data allowances.

What is AV2, and why should viewers care?

YouTube is reworking the Home page with Custom Feeds and quicker access to Subscriptions
Saved Custom Feeds are rolling out as YouTube also experiments with a redesigned Home navigation bar.

YouTube is changing how its Home page works, giving viewers more control over what shows up there and making some of the app’s most-used sections easier to reach. Custom Feeds are now replacing the existing topic chips for eligible users, while YouTube is also testing a redesigned top bar on mobile that moves Subscriptions closer to the Home feed.

YouTube first started experimenting with Custom Feeds earlier this year, letting you type out what you wanted to watch and turning that request into its own stream of recommendations. Now, the feature is starting to look less like a side experiment and more like something YouTube actually wants people to use as part of their everyday Home page.
