Super Bowl movie trailer roundup

Image used with permission by copyright holder

Ah, the pomp and circumstance of the Super Bowl. It is a time when the best of the NFL crop meet to determine a champion. The game is fierce, and the recent outcome was decided by a last minute defensive stand that had audiences in the stadium and at home on their feet. And while the audience was praying for either a defensive stand or an offensive miracle, advertisers were praying for a timeout so they might have a chance to show off their extremely expensive clips.

Among those most anxious to have the game cut to commercial were movie studios, who debuted new trailers for several of the year’s most anticipated new films, including a few that had never been seen before.

Check out our roundup of Super Bowl movie trailers below.

It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Rango

In the film, Rango is a pet chameleon who lives in a terrarium. He has long thought himself a hero, but then finds himself removed from his contemporary American southwest surroundings and ending up in an Old West town called Dirt, which is populated by various desert critters garbed like characters out of a spaghetti western. As he’s always thought himself a hero, Rango establishes himself as the lawman, strolling the streets as a sheriff-like character. Unknown to him, the “good guy” role does not do very well in Dirt—with a whole cemetery filled with good guy tombstones. But that does not stop Rango from trying, constantly seeking to fit in with his surroundings, no matter how challenging. At a certain point in the narrative, Rango will come to question everything about himself. – Wikipedia

Transformers One trailer turns an origin story into a buddy comedy
The main heroes in Transformers One.

The Transformers animated series from 1984 first established an origin story for Optimus Prime and Megatron on their home world of Cybertron. But as originally envisioned, Megatron, the future leader of the evil Decepticons, was only a false friend to Orion Pax, who would go on to become the Autobots' leader, Optimus Prime. Subsequent incarnations in other media have reconfigured that relationship, but the upcoming animated movie, Transformers One, is the first to take the future rivals and pair them up in a buddy action comedy.
