Panasonic 2013 earbuds and sports headphones line up

Panasonic is pulling out all the stops at CES this year, and in addition to new TV’s, home theater systems, and camcorders, they’ve just showcased a new line of earbuds as well. It seems that more and more manufacturers are embracing the idea that headphones can be a fashion statement, and with their veritable rainbow of HV41 earbud colors, it’s clear that Panasonic has caught on to the trend.

Looking for some buds that are loud, but not necessarily in such loud colors? Panasonic has also released the HJE190 and BTGS10 buds which have more subdued and mellow hues, but are likely similar in sound quality. That, however, remains to be heard, so be sure to check back for our review and first impressions in the weeks to come.

They offer a range of benefits, such as high-quality sound, dust and water resistance for the most rigorous of workouts, and the ability to connect to multiple devices. Whether commuting to work, working out at the gym, or simply relaxing at home, wireless earbuds make it possible to enjoy your favorite music or podcasts without disturbing others.

But picking through the jungle of wireless earbuds available has gotten increasingly difficult as the breadth of brands continues to grow and tech-heavy features like active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, hi-res audio capabilities, and more challenge what it is we need and want in our earbuds, as well as what we can and are willing to pay for them.

Your next earbuds maybe shouldn’t be earbuds at all

You can wear smart glasses. Or you can wear earbuds. But you probably don't need both. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

I’m a big fan of having the right tool for the right job — which is something I've definitely said before. If you’re a photographer, it means you probably have more than one lens. If you’re a chef, you have more than one knife or pan. You don’t take a sedan muddin’, as they say in my neck of the woods. And you don’t take a johnboat 100 miles offshore to go fishing.
