Porsche is recalling about 2,263 of its 2012 – 2013 model year 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models because of an issue with the exhaust.

According to reports, the tailpipe on the cars could unexpectedly separate from the rear muffler and become a road hazard and increase the risk of crash.

The recall affects models equipped with a standard exhaust system manufactured from March 7, 2012 through November 12, 2012.  Vehicles manufactured with a port exhaust system are not affected.

Porsche, which is issuing the recall voluntarily, reportedly first noticed the problem last May when officials saw a fracture in the circular welded seam on the rear muffler of an internal test vehicle. Following the investigation, the company decided to issue the recall concluding that the Carrera’s exhaust system did not meet Porsche’s service life standards.

Porsche officials said they aren’t aware of any instances where a Carrera tailpipe actually became detached from the car. But the recall is definitely a sign of the challenges facing the auto industry that even an award-winning brand like Porsche cannot shake.

2013-porsche-911-carrera-4s_100400349_mIn February of 2012, Porsche had to recall nearly 102,000 model year 2011-2012 Cayenne SUVs to fix a faulty headlight.  The company also had to recall 1,232 model year 2012 Porsche Carrera S vehicles last May over concerns of fuel line failure.  And in July of 2012 Porsche had to recall 270 model year 2011-2012 Panamera Turbo and Turbo S cars as well as Cayenne Turbo crossovers due to a turbine wheel defect.

Of course, as with the previous recalls, Porsche is moving quickly to rectify the problem, urging Carrera owners to see an authorized dealer to replace the muffler free of charge.  For more information, Carrera owners are encouraged to contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. The R2 is targeted at being a more affordable take on the electric SUV and will sit alongside the flagship-tier R1S.

Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

Don’t let the gimmicks fool you. The Ioniq 5 N is a serious track car
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades. But while we’ve already seen some variants of EVs boasting more power and more impressive stats — think Tesla Model S Plaid or Lucid Air Sapphire — the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first to truly apply that format to an EV.
