D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G Wireless Review

Quote from the review:

“D-Link has been a staple of the networked community for a very long time. I even remember purchasing one of their home network starter kits for Ethernet (that’s 10 Mbps for the younger readers). Since that time, much has changed in the world of networked components, one being that we no longer need those pesky wires we were so fond of many years ago.

D-Link was nice enough to send me a full AirPlus Extreme G wireless network setup. This consisted of the DI-624 wireless router, a DWL-G520 PCI card, and a DWL-G650 wireless PCMCIA card. With these components I should be able to share my Internet connection and files, all wirelessly. Unlike the old 802.11b standard with transfer speeds published at 11 Mbps, the new G standard has a published rate of 54 Mbps. This is quite an increase in speed for such a short period of time. All this is great, and most would say that going from 11 to 54 Mbps was quite a feat, but the fine folks at D-Link have decided to go one step further. Using an entire D-Link setup, it is reported that their equipment can reach speeds of 108 Mbps.”

I’ll be honest with you. Three minutes of weightlessness for the price of a very nice house sounds absurd to me. Even so, hundreds of people have already lined up to experience it.

Most recently, Virgin Galactic unveiled Apeiron, the first spaceplane in its new Delta class. The company flew it from its Arizona factory to Spaceport America in New Mexico, where it will begin flight testing.

Google has been finding more ways to make Gemini a part of your daily routine, from putting together playlists to ordering groceries through your favorite apps. Now it's expanding those capabilities to more services, with Google Search joining in, too.

The company has announced a new Connected Apps Platform that makes it easier for developers to bring their services to both Gemini and Search. Alongside this, Google is adding new partners to its growing lineup, bringing more of the apps people already use into its AI ecosystem.

AI bots are now trying to sabotage public health policies, like banning disposable vapes
Thousands of AI bots voted in a public health poll to block sales restriction on disposable vapes. It's like Big Tobacco is back from the dead.

In the broad context of AI and its perceived harms, health and medical risks often pop up in the conversation. The warnings even come from frontier AI labs, such as ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and Anthropic, both of which have warned about misusing AI to cook up bioweapons. Security experts have already spotted a few such incidents in the wild, especially with the usage of AI models without any solid guardrails.

Well, it appears that the risks run deeper. As per an analysis appearing in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), AI bots are now being deployed to influence public policies governing health risks to citizens. In this instance, an attempt was made using AI bots to thwart regulations that aim to restrict the sale of disposable vapes, all while disguising the manipulation efforts as a response from real humans.
