Outfitted with a Linux-based PC meant to be powered either by pedaling or via solar power, the bicycle is a portable VoIP solution. The system is ‘rugged-tized’ for use under harsh conditions, such as African climate, and has no moving parts. The set up is also able to be remotely serviced.
Envisioned as a solution to the lack of communication services in developing communities for international relief organizations, the “VoIPcycle†will be sents to remote African villages with no electricity or phone service. The bike is able to stay connected through a series of transmitters and receivers.
The bike has been designed specially by Inveneo, and carries a battery, which in turn powers the Linux box, which is connected to the VoIP gear, and antenna.
