Thales Navigation has finally released details on the new RoadMate 800 GPS device. Featuring an integrated battery the new RoadMate 800 GPS doubles as an MP3 playerand a photoviewer. Built inside of the new RoadMate 800 is a 20GB hard drive that provides you with out-of-the-box, turn-by-turn, text- and voice-prompted directions using the latest NAVTEQ data forall 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Canada and the US Virgin Islands. Featuring a 3.5-inch color TFT touch screen display with 3-D overhead map, the RoadMate 800 is supposed to give youbetter visibility at night. "The Magellan RoadMate 800 builds on the award-winning, market-leading Magellan RoadMate 700 to deliver a new level of convenience, flexibility andvalue," said Christian Bubenheim, vice president and general manager of Thales’ consumer business. "Marrying exceptional GPS capabilities with multimedia functions and an integrated batteryis a natural next step in providing the optimal user experience with solutions for an entirely new set of entertainment and travel needs — both in and away from the vehicle." When theRoadMate 800 is not in GPS mode, you can playback music, share and display photos and more from either the built-in hard drive, or using the Secure Digital (SD)/MMC card slot. Based on what wecould find out, 4.5GB of internal storage is dedicated to music and photo files, while the rest of the hard drive is used for navigational purposes. The RoadMate 800 supports only MP3 and WMA audioformats and can only play back music or show pictures while the navigation side is turned off.
