Canon adds AirPrint and Google Cloud support to new ImageClass printer

Add as a preferred source on Google

Canon just released two new multifunction printers (MFP) designed for small and medium-sized businesses, the ImageClass MF6180dw and MF6160dw black and white laser MFPs. Why just black and white, and not color? The thinking is that most offices print more monochrome documents than color, and color inks are also expensive.

Besides networkable via Ethernet, the 6180dw also supports wireless connectivity, in response to more office users printing from smart devices. The 6180dw allows a user to print directly from their Gmail and Google Doc accounts via Google Cloud Print on their mobile devices or via the Google Chrome browser. Apple AirPrint is also supported

The machines have a 35 page-per-minute print speed and a front-loading paper tray that holds 250 sheets. They also come loaded with features designed for office use, such as secure printing and usage monitoring.

They’re designed for office use, but they wouldn’t be out of place in small or home businesses. The 6180dw will sell for $500 and the 6160dw for $400.

Intel’s 6W Moon Lake chips could make budget laptops cooler, quieter, and more efficient at a cost
A tiny chip with big battery life ambitions.
Intel Core

Cheap laptops, the ones with a wheezy fan and a battery that taps out by lunch, have burned me before, which is why I usually stay away from them and advise my friends to do the same.

So, when a leak claims Intel is building a chip just for them, with a power rating of only 6W (compared to 15 to 20W for regular chips), I’m a bit excited, but perhaps even more cautious.

Amazon’s Alexa can now manage shopping lists, subscriptions, and check refund status just by asking
Alexa for Shopping gets 100+ new account management tools ahead of holiday season
Amazon Alexa for Shopping being used to create lists

The Holiday season is upon us, and Amazon is making its AI shopping assistant a lot more useful ahead of major shopping events like Black Friday. The company has announced over 100 new Alexa for Shopping capabilities, letting customers manage subscriptions, create gift lists, change delivery instructions, and ask billing questions simply by asking. The new features are already available to Amazon customers in the US.

Alexa for Shopping could already help you find products, compare prices, and track discounts. Now, Amazon is making it useful for some of the less exciting parts of online shopping, which I think is where an AI assistant could come in handy.
