Perfect 10 Wins Copyright Fight with Google

U.S. District Judge Howard Matz has ruled in favor of adult entertainment publisher Perfect 10 in its copyright suit against internet search engine Google. Perfect 10 claimed that Google’s image search feature infringed on its copyrights and harmed Perfect 10’s effects to market thumbnail-sized images for cell phones and other portable devices.

In his ruling, Matz found that, “despite the enormous public benefit that search engines such as Google provide,” Google’s image search was still a direct infringement of Perfect 10’s copyrights. He ordered both sides to come to an agreement which would permit Google to catalog and display images online while respecting Perfect 10’s copyrights.
