The Nintendo Revolution Will Be...Wii

Ah, to live in an age where produce codenames make so much more sense than real product names!

Nintendo has been referring to their next-generation gaming console by its codename “Revolution” for some time, but today the game company took the wraps off the products official name.

Get ready for it: Wii.

Nintendo says the name Wii sounds just like “we,” emphasizing the console is intended for everyone, not just traditional gaming audiences, and is a simple name which can easily be understood worldwide, without abbreviation, regardless of language. The double-i spelling is supposed to symbolize both the system’s unique controllers as well as people coming together to play.

We shall see.

(Just imagine the potential confusion when parents hear that their children are eager to “go wee” in the living room. Sigh

It comes with the Nintendo Switch OLED version and includes a lovely cover for both the dock and the two Joy-Cons, and is a must-have for any Zelda fan. Just be aware that this deal doesn't include the game, sadly, and is a Geek Squad refurbished version of the console, so you will have to buy the game separately if you want to play it. Even so, it's a great bit of memorabilia for you to grab.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed’s control tweaks reinvigorate a Wii classic

While Nintendo’s February Direct Partner Showcase included a few unexpected games, nothing was more surprising than the return of Epic Mickey. The Nintendo Wii adventure is something of a cult classic among Disney fans thanks to its unique painting hook and some clever 2D levels that pay tribute to classic Mickey Mouse cartoons. Though it’s beloved by some, reviews at the time were mixed due to some clumsy Wii-era motion controls and a poor 3D camera.

Thankfully, the Disney adventure is getting some redemption in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. The upcoming release doesn’t just bring the Wii game to Switch but aims to fix most of its most glaring problems, too. That’s a change I expected, considering that it would need a control overhaul to work with the Switch’s more traditional button layout. What surprised me, though, is that Rebrushed isn’t just a simple HD remaster like its title seemed to imply. It’s a true remake, even if its visual upgrades are a bit modest.
