AOL Buys GameDaily

AOL continued its latest acquisition spree today, announcing it has acquired video game Web site GameDaily from Gigex, Inc., for an undisclosed sum.

According to Gigex, GameDaily is one of the top three most-visited video gaming sites on the Web, and reaches numerous industry figures and gaming enthusiasts with its GameDaily Biz newsletter, which it claims is the most widely read video game trade publication. AOL will also acquire certain GameDaily content partnership agreements.

AOL will acquire both the GameDaily site and the GameDaily Biz newsletter, and convert the property into the flagship video games brand within the AOL Games networking, integrating with the content content, features, and community offerings already on the AOL Video Games site.

However, in the offices, the acquisition sounds like it might be going in reverse, with AOL Video Games’ editorial staff integrating with the GameDaily operatives to make a new GameDaily team.

"Video game sites have become a valuable resource for advertisers wishing to reach the young male audience, and GameDaily is a brand that resonates with these highly sought after consumers," said Ralph Rivera, AOL Games’ Vice President and General Manager, in a release. "We look forward to continuing to serve this audience, maximizing GameDaily content with AOL’s community features, and further expanding the AOL Games community."

GameDaily is AOL’s fourth acquisition this year, following Userplane last weekl LigthningCast in May, and Truveo back in January.
