Falcon NW Unveils FragBook TLX Notebook

Boutique PC manufacturer Falcon Northwest might boast one of the Internet’s most annoying Web sites, but they sure know how to cater to their primary audience of serious gamers. The latest entry in their desktop-replacement gaming notebooks is the FragBook TLX, which manages to pack almost all the features high-end gamers want into a surprisingly svelte and lightweight package. Of course, it’s not an inexpensive svelte and lightweight package.

Like Falcon’s other gaming notebooks, the FragBook TLX offers a 17-inch 1,680 by 1,050 pixel LCD display, driven by an Nvidia GeForce 7600 Go graphics controller with 256 MB of video RAM, up to 2 GB of system memory, up to 160 GB of hard drive storage, and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at speeds up to 2.33 GHz. Also on board: gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi networking, dual-layer DVD burner, ReakTek stereo speakers, a full sized 101-key keyboard, a 4-in-1 media card reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS-Pro), three USB 2.0 ports, on mini IEEE 1394/FireWire port, DVI video output, plus ExpressCard and PCMCIA slots. But here’s the clincher: the entire system weighs just 7.5 pounds fully loaded, and measured 15.6 inches wide by 10.9 inches deep by just 1.4 inches high. Need a 1.3 megapixel Webcam? An optional TV Tuner? Falcon Northwest has you covered.

Prices for the FragBook TLX start at $3,516…but if you really want the complete “impress-everyone-at-the-LAN-party” experience, inquire with Falcon about a custom paint job: they’ll do anything from basic colors to completely custom-designed cases. Alas, it’s too late to get an order in for the holidays.
