Acer reveals 27-inch, 21.5-inch Android AIO desktops (yes, desktops)

So we’ve got the nifty, clever term for a notebook running Google’s Chrome OS; Chromebook. It’s kinda cute and clever, isn’t it? But what do we call a desktop rig running Android, an operating system that’s predominantly found on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones? A Droidtop? DeskDroid? A Personal Droidputer?! We’re pretty sure that’ll be worked out at some point, especially given the latest offerings from Acer.

Alongside a new Chromebook announcement, Acer just revealed two new additions to their desktop computing line. The first, dubbed the TA272 HUL (pictured above), is an all-in-one desktop that runs Android 4.2 Jellybean. Powered by an Nvidia Tegra quad-core processor, the TA272 HUL also wields a 27-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel 10-point touchscreen display, a 16GB SSD, 1GB of RAM and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi.

Sporting an aesthetic theme that’s described by Acer as “minimalist,” the TA272 HUL display stand includes a tilt range that’s between 30 and 80 degrees, as well as a pair of front-facing integrated Dolby speakers, and a built-in 2MP webcam. Connectivity options include three USB 3.0 ports, along with two HDMI and a DisplayPort connector as well. Acer also revealed the DA223 HQL, which is spearheaded by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7 GHz processor, a 21.5-inch 1080p 10-point touchscreen as well as a built-in battery. The DA223 HQL also runs Android Jelly Bean.

Both the TA272 HUL and the DA223 HQL are currently available globally and are priced at $1,100 and $700, respectively. It’ll be interesting to see whether Acer’s new Android-powered AIOs catch on, considering that, in the case of the TA272 HUL, a Windows-based all in one like the Lenovo IdeaCenter A730 will net you a powerful Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M graphics, 8GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive for just $300 more ($1,400).
