Mtron Debuts Three New SSD Lines Move over Samsung and SanDisk, the market for solid-state drives is beginning to see some new competition. South Korean manufacturer Mtron, a relatively newcompany, announced Wednesday that it would introduce three new SSD drive lines – including a 64GB model – at the IFA 2007 consumer electronics fair in Berlin. Besides the capacity of its new drives,Mtron claims a read speed of 120MB/s and write speed of 90MB/s, along with 0.1 ms random access time, means they are three to four times faster than existing magnetic hard drives and 30 to 40 percentfaster than other SSD drives.
Mtron’s MSD product line is targeted at consumers, with both 2.5- and 3.5- inch SATA drives at capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. A tantalizing 128GB drive in the 1.8-inch form factor is alsoin the works for the fourth quarter of 2007. The MSD PRO line caters to businesses with enhanced durability and stability, as well as a secure erase feature to wipe out sensitive data. The MSDXTM line can operate from -40 degrees to 85 degrees, making the drives practical for industrial applications. Drives from all three lines will be on display when IFA 2007 begins on August 31,with mass production firing up in September.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Macs are about to get a serious revamp. Don't expect a redesigned chassis or better displays, though. This new era is all about AI -- betcha didn't see that one coming.

Reporter Mark Gurman says that Apple is expected to refresh the entire lineup of Macs with M4 chips that "emphasize" AI capabilities starting in late 2024 and heading into 2025. It's unknown whether this new emphasis is just marketing or will refer to a true technical change. Apple's Neural Engine has been part of the Mac since 2020, when it was introduced in the M1 chip for the purpose of speeding up AI workloads.

MSI first showcased its range of new prebuilt gaming desktop towers earlier this year, and now the entire range is available for purchase. The company’s flagship offering, the Vision Elite, packs top-of-the-line specs including Intel’s latest 14th-gen Core i9 desktop processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090.

Google quietly announced an AI-powered video creation app today. Called Google Vids, the new app is designed for Google Workspace users and uses the power of Google Gemini to help you create informational videos for the workspace.

Currently in testing with select Google Workspace Labs users (a public beta ispromised for later), the new online tool builds on some of the AI-powered features we've already seen in Google's other apps like Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The difference is that with Google Vids, you can manually create a video storyboard using your media or use AI to create one using basic words and simple prompts. This allows you to edit and put together much more informative videos in a short time.
