Beats by Dre hands out $25,000 headphones to all Super Bowl players

Sometimes it’s hard to fathom why Beats headphones, often regarded by audio enthusiasts as over-priced and underperforming, seem to be the only brand pro athletes wear. But then the company does something like, say, send every Superbowl player a pair of $25,000 gold and diamond encrusted headphones, and things become more clear.

The specially designed superphones were forged in two color patterns, a yellow-gold version for the Seattle Seahawks, and a white-gold version for their AFC rivals, the Denver Broncos. The ‘phones sport the words “New York XLVIII 2014,” engraved along the bands in gold, and are also littered with a few diamonds courtesy of Graff diamonds, and cloaked in leather. Each pair also comes packed in its own commemorative case.

In case you’ve been under a rock this week, the Seahawks’ will pit their number one defense against the Broncos’ number one offense in a highly anticipated Superbowl this Sunday in NYC, and the clamor is just shifting into fever-pitch mode.

The glamor-cans made big news this week when bigmouthed ‘hawk cornerback Richard Sherman delivered the $1.2 million treasure trove to Seattle’s players himself. (Sherman is one of the many star athletes in the Beats fold.) And in signature Sherman fashion, he made sure to give himself a bit of the credit as well, tweeting this little preface to his teammates before completing the delivery, “Got a little gift for all my teammates from me and @beatsbydre … Stay tuned to see what it is! #GoHawks.” No word emerged in the Twitter-verse as to who delivered the stash bound for the Broncos locker room.

While the Superbowl headphones aren’t quite up to par with the $1 million pair of Beats we showed you a few weeks back donned by Lil Wayne, we’re sure none of the players will be complaining. And it’s a good bet that Beats has secured itself a few more de facto celebrity endorsers.
