Lenovo Chases Green Ratings with M57 "Eco"

Though best known for its ThinkPad notebooks, Lenovo produces lesser-known ThinkCentre desktops as well, and expanded that line today with the release of the M57 “Eco.”The company bills the Intel-based small-form-factor PC it as its “most environmentally friendly desktop to date.”

Besides setting records among Lenovo computers, the M57 also became the first desktop PC ever to receive the Greenguard Institute’s Greenguard certification, which guarantees it to be free of over 2,000 chemical emissions. It also earned the more commonplace EPEAT Gold and Energy Star 4.0 ratings.

The new models come in two variants, the M57 and faster M57p. Both can be optioned with up to 8GB of total memory, 500GB hard drives, and processors from Intel’s Celeron, Pentium Dual-Core, and Core 2 Duo lines, along with either integrated Intel GMA3100 graphics or the Intel X3100 accelerator.

To coincide with the launch of its latest small-form-factor PCs, Lenovo also unveiled its new ThinkCentre Vertical PC and Monitor Stand, which allows the monitor and desktop to lift off the desk for more workspace.

Both the M57 and M57p are on sale immediately, with prices starting at $699 for the M57.

lenovo ideapad 5g qualcomm snapdragon 8cx ces 2021

After being an early adopter of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets on its Windows notebooks, Lenovo is upping the ante at CES 2021. While Lenovo is continuing to support Microsoft's Windows on ARM efforts, it's also now embracing 5G mobile coverage on the new IdeaPad 5G -- one of the best new laptops at CES this year.

Like Lenovo's previous Yoga C630 Snapdragon-powered clamshell, the IdeaPad 5G features strong battery life -- this notebook is rated for 20 hours of continuous video playback -- and a fan-less design with a thin-and-light form factor. The IdeaPad 5G this year will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform and feature Adreno 680 integrated graphics, a Snapdragon X55 modem, and 4G LTE support in areas where 5G signals aren't yet available. Where 5G is present, Lenovo claims that large files can download up to 10 times faster than over LTE.

Before getting into the fixes, keep in mind that they are temporary. Intel will release a statement on the instability soon, likely with more direct guidance on what affected users should do. In addition, the scope of the problem isn't clear -- if you're not experiencing issues, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
