Android will soon let you switch the navigation button order, Samsung style

A new setting will let you pick whether you want the Back button on the left or right.

What’s happened? The latest Android Canary release (2510) includes a new setting that lets users flip the navigation button layout.

  • Android Authority reports that the build includes a new “Button order” menu with two layout options: Back, Home, Recents and Recents, Home, Back.
  • So far, most Android phones, including the Google Pixel lineup, have only offered one navigation button layout with the Back button on the left and the Recents button on the right. However, the layout is reversed on Samsung phones.
  • With this new setting, Samsung users switching to a device from a different manufacturer will have the option to retain the familiar navigation button layout.

Why is this important? The ability to flip the navigation button layout should reduce friction for users switching between Android devices that use a different button order.

  • By moving the Back and Recents button to familiar positions, users can rely on established muscle memory, leading to faster navigation and fewer mistakes.
  • In addition to easing transition, the setting will give users the option to choose the more ergonomic button layout based on their preferences and hand dominance.

Why should I care? If you use the three-button navigation system, this setting lets you pick the button order that feels more natural to you when switching to a device from a different manufacturer.

  • The Button order setting will be particularly useful if you’re a long-term Samsung user planning to switch to a Pixel.
  • It should also prove handy for left-handed individuals, who prefer to have the Recents button closer to their dominant thumb for easier one-handed use.

What’s next? As the new Button order setting has just gone live in the latest Android Canary release, you will likely have to wait a while before it reaches your device. It’s unlikely to ship with the Android 16 QPR2 update in December, but Google could include it in the Android 16 QPR3 release scheduled to arrive in March next year.

The Razr Fold now gets along better with iPhones thanks to AirDrop
Motorola's first foldable learns a new trick, and I guess I'm ready to daily drive it now
Electronics, Speaker, Electrical Device

I already had more reasons than expected to keep the Motorola Razr Fold around. While reviewing it, the company's first foldable genuinely surprised me with its level of polish. A practical outer display, great cameras, strong battery life, and a gorgeous folding screen. All of this made me want to switch to this device as my primary phone.

Now Motorola has added one more reason, and it's just sweetening the deal for me. The Motorola Razr Fold now supports AirDrop-style sharing through Android’s Quick Share, making it the first Motorola phone to get the feature. That means Razr Fold users can share files directly with Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs without relying on cloud links, messaging apps, USB cables, or the usual cross-platform nonsense.
