Although home theater fans may scoff at smaller displays that due double-duty as PC monitors, there’s no denying to appeal of combo units for folks who are tight on space—for instance, in dens, children’s bedrooms, dorm rooms, or one of those oh-so-tiny trendy studio lofts. For folks who are tight on space, ViewSonic has introduced its N2201W 3-in-1 display, combining a high-definition LCD television, DVD player, and PC monitor in one device.

“The N2201w’s dual functionality provides customers convenience and value by adding a digital television to their home that will compliment any room,” said ViewSonic’s VP and general manager of VTV North America Consumer Electronics Division Steve Woo, in a statement. “We are committed to offering affordable TV options—large and small—to keep everyone tuned in after the digital transition.”

The N2201W boasts a 22-inch 1,680 by 1,050 display capable of handling 1080i high-definition content; the display features a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 and a 5ms response time. As a TV, the unit offers an ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuner and an HDMI input (with HDCP support) for connecting high-definition video sources like game consoles or set-top boxes. The unit also offers an RGB PC input for use as a PC display. The N2201W also packs an integrated DVD player that loads on the side of the unit—although it doesn’t look like it upscales standard definition content. The unit also offers to 2 3-watt speakers and RCA audio outputs.

The N2201W is available now through ViewSonic retailers at a suggested price of $429.
