Knocking solid-state drive prices even further south, Californian memory manufacturer Super Talent introduced two new SSDs under $300 on Tuesday. The MasterDrive LX series in 64GB and 128GB capacities won’t set any speed or size records for the category, but boast all the other advantages of SSDs, including shock resistance, power efficiency, and completely silent operation.

The drives’ 2.5-inch form factor and standard SATA-II interface makes them completely interchangeable with ordinary notebook drives. Super Talent says they are rated to deliver read and write speeds of 100 MB/s and 40 MB/s, putting them on the slower end of the SSD spectrum, but still making them faster than most conventional drives.

The biggest selling factor for the drives, of course, will be their price point. Super Talent will sell the 64GB version for $179 and the 128GB version for $299, placing them drastically lower than even the pair of budget drives OCZ Technology introduced back in July. Both will go on sale later this week.

Google has recently released many updates introducing new features to its AI suite, and the latest one could save users dealing with documents a lot of tedious work. The company has added the ability to create, preview, and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, and code directly within Gemini conversations. Previously, you could generate and download files, but now you can work on them without leaving the chat.

Reddit is making login mandatory for all users of the platform. In a lengthy post, the Reddit chief explained that the company is moving to a permanently logged-in experience because it wants to offer users more personalization, helping them find content that’s more relevant to their interests and tastes.

The core idea, according to the company, is to nudge users into joining more communities and engaging with content through comments, votes, and more. The company, however, assures that the change won’t affect anonymity, which has long been one of the platform’s core appeals. The sign-up flow isn’t changing either. You won’t be required to submit any information beyond what’s already needed to create a Reddit account.
