Gateway LT2000 Netbook Sports 10.1-Inch Screen

Computer maker Gateway is expanding its LT series of netbook computers with the new LT2000, sporting a 10.1-inch display in a chassis that’s only one inch thick and weighs just 2.62 pounds. The LT200 is designed to offer a good range of communications capabilities while staying lightweight and highly portable—and Gateway has thrown in a multi-gesture trackpad that enables users to (say) scroll windows using a swirling motion of their finger.

“The new sleek Gateway LT2000 netbooks let customers do more with their time on the go—from enjoying the Internet to video chatting and staying in touch via email and social networks,” said Gateway senior product marketing manager Ray Sawall, in a statement. “The expressive design is modern and stylish, looking perfect whether it’s used for work or play.”

Under the hood, the LT2000 resembles most netbooks on the market: the system is built around a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, sports 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive, and offers 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity, Ethernet, and a built-in Webcam for video chat. The 10.1-inch display offers a 1,024 by 600-pixel resolution, and the system also sports a multi-in-1 digital media card reader, three USB 2.0 ports, and VGA output for connecting up to a larger display. The system runs Windows XP, and the multi-gesture trackpad lets users quickly scroll, page, and zoom in and out of documents with one hand, making the system easier to use while (say) being held with the other hand.

The LT2000s are available now in black or cherry red, with pricing starting at $299.99.
